Serve & Surf

The Coastal Christian High School Surf Club primarily comprises Coastal Christian students and staff. We sometimes have parents and other friends from the community join us. As a club, we enjoy meeting up, surfing at local beaches, and taking surf trips around the state. However, once a year, we set out to El Salvador as a team to provide humanitarian relief to families in need. Read more about our mission and how you can be a part of it.

Who we are.

The Coastal Christian High School Surf Club is made up primarily of Coastal Christian students and staff. We sometimes have parents and other friends from the community join us. As a club we enjoy meeting up and surfing together at local beaches and taking surf trips around the state. However, once a year we set out to El Salvador as a team to provide humanitarian relief to families in need. Read more about our mission and how you can be a part.

Where and What.

The Coastal Christian High School Surf Club has been serving in La Libertad, El Salvador for the past three years. Our ministry goal is to provide clean drinking water to families in need. In the past three years we have reached over 600 people and have provided clean drinking water with filters that last up to ten years and are capable of filtering 100 gallons of clean water a day. This mission meets the needs of the coastal community in La Libertad.

Why water filters?

Most people in the coastal community of La Libertad, El Salvador do not have indoor plumbing. This means that most groundwater is contaminated by latrines. Because La Libertad is a coastal community, the water table is very high and wells dug are too shallow for the water to be naturally filtered and cleaned. Therefore, anyone drinking well water, or even tap water, is prone to bacteria and parasites. Many children and elderly adults suffer from parasitic diseases born from unfiltered water. This typically leads to excessive expenses in medical bills that many people in this community cannot afford. By installing a water filter in a home, everyone in the home now has access to safe, clean drinking water.

How you can help.

The cost of a new water filter is just $30. Our goal is to provide as many people as possible with a new water filter. These filters last up to ten years and are capable of filtering 100 gallons of clean water a day. That’s less than the cost of ten cups of coffee. Your donation will make a difference in the lives of real people who face real problems. Over the lifespan of one water filter, you are literally paying a fraction of a fraction of a cent for each gallon filtered. 100 gallons a day x 365 days a year x 10 years = 365,000 gallons of clean water. That’s just 0.000082 cents a gallon! Your donation will go a long, long way!
